Ride down the Chicago River between the skyscrapers while a guide tells the stories behind them. Each of you quietly picks the building you'd live in and reveals it at the end, with your reasons. The photo to get: the two of you on the top deck with the towers rising on both sides.

About this place

After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the city rebuilt fast and became the birthplace of the skyscraper. The river cruise passes more than a century of famous buildings, from early towers to the twin "corncob" towers of Marina City and Willis Tower.

The river itself is a story too: engineers reversed its flow in 1900 so it would carry the city's waste away from Lake Michigan. The cruises run from spring through fall, about an hour and a half, and need a ticket. Bring a layer; it's breezy on the water.
