Leopold's and Forsyth Park

Leopold's Ice Cream in Savannah. Get a scoop, then stroll the squares to the Forsyth Park fountain.

Get a scoop at Leopold's, then take your cones south through the oak-shaded squares to the big white fountain in Forsyth Park. Find a bench under the Spanish moss and trade bites of each other's flavor. Each guess the other's next flavor pick. The photo to get: the two of you with your cones in front of the fountain.

About this place

Leopold's was opened in 1919 by three brothers from Greece. Stratton Leopold, the son of one of them, became a Hollywood movie producer and reopened the shop in 2004, decorated with props and posters from his films. Their best-known flavor is Tutti Frutti.

Savannah's squares come from the town plan James Oglethorpe laid out in 1733; 22 of them survive. The Forsyth Park fountain dates to 1858. The line at Leopold's can be long on summer evenings, but it moves.
