McMenamins Edgefield

Edgefield opened in 1911 as the county poor farm, where people with nowhere else to go lived and worked the land; at its peak in 1935 it housed more than 600 residents. It closed in the early 1980s and was nearly torn down before McMenamins bought it in 1990, the same year it joined the National Register of Historic Places.

Today its 74 acres hold more than 100 hotel rooms (with no TVs or phones), a winery, brewery and distillery, two par-3 pub golf courses, a movie theater, gardens, and summer concerts on the lawn. Glassblowing and pottery happen on site, and art covers nearly every wall. The soaking pool is for overnight guests only.
