Pitchfork Fondue and the Medora Musical

Medora, ND. Eat a steak cooked on a pitchfork, then see the Medora Musical in the Badlands.

Start with the Pitchfork Steak Fondue: steaks speared on pitchforks and cooked over a fire on a bluff above the Badlands, served with a view. Then head down to the outdoor amphitheatre for the Medora Musical, a song-and-dance Western show with the Badlands as the backdrop. Each pick your favorite song and hum it on the way out. The photo to get: the two of you with the Badlands glowing at sunset.

About this place

The Medora Musical has run every summer since 1965. Businessman Harold Schafer helped bring the little cow town back to life in the 1960s, and the show is still a Medora tradition.

Theodore Roosevelt ranched near here in the 1880s and later said he never would have been president without his years in North Dakota. Theodore Roosevelt National Park is right next to town, so add a drive through it before dinner. The show and fondue run from June to early September.
