Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver. Climb the rows at golden hour, or catch a show.

On a day without a show, climb all the way to the top row of Red Rocks as the sun drops and the giant red walls start to glow. Race each other up the last few rows, then sit and catch your breath with Denver spread out below. The photo to get: the two of you on the top row with the stage and the red rocks behind you. If you can, come back for a concert under the stars.

About this place

Red Rocks Amphitheatre sits between two huge sandstone formations, Ship Rock and Creation Rock, which give it natural acoustics musicians rave about. It was built in the 1930s and opened in 1941. The Beatles played here in 1964, and U2's concert film here helped make it world famous.

It's at about 6,450 feet, so go easy on the stairs. The park is free to visit on days without a show, though it closes early on concert days. The Trading Post Trail is an easy loop among the rocks, and the visitor center has the Colorado Music Hall of Fame.
