Tillamook Creamery

Watch cheese get made at the Tillamook Creamery, then each try an ice cream you'd never pick.

Walk the self-guided viewing gallery above the cheese factory floor, then hit the sample counter and each rank the cheeses from best to worst. Head down for ice cream: each order one flavor you'd never normally choose, trade bites, and get a photo of both cones side by side before they melt.

About this place

The Tillamook Creamery sits just north of the town of Tillamook, and it's free to visit. Tillamook started in 1909, when ten small creameries joined forces, and it's still a farmer-owned co-op of about 60 dairy farms, most of them in Tillamook County. Its medium cheddar won gold at the 2010 World Cheese Championship.

The visitor center opened in 2018 and draws more than a million people a year, so weekends get busy. The cheeses at the sample counter change, so there's always something new to try, and there's a dining hall for lunch. Guided tours are available too; book ahead for those.
