Farm or Orchard Visit

U-pick farm or orchard date. Pick fresh fruit together and cook something with it at home.

Find a local farm, orchard or u-pick nearby and wander the rows. Have a contest: each find the single best berry, apple or peach in the field and let the other judge it. Bring home enough to cook something together. The photo to get: the two of you in the rows holding up your full baskets.

What's ripe changes through the year: strawberries in early summer, blueberries and cherries in midsummer, peaches late summer, and apples and pumpkins in fall. Call ahead or check the farm's page the day you go, since fields can get picked out fast.

Wear shoes that can get muddy, bring water and sunscreen, and bring some cash, since small farm stands don't always take cards.
