Lunch in Another Town

Day trip to a nearby town you've never explored. Eat lunch somewhere local and walk Main Street.

Pick a town or small city within about an hour that you don't know well. Skip the chains, find a local spot for lunch, and ask your server what you shouldn't miss in town. Then take a slow walk down Main Street, and each find one thing you'd come back for. The photo to get: you on Main Street or under the town's welcome sign.

More about this mission

Small towns often save their best stuff for people who ask: a hidden viewpoint, a bakery that sells out by noon, a museum in someone's old house. Servers and shop owners are the best guides.

Check whether the town has a farmers market or festival on the day you go, and look up its historic downtown, if it has one. Keep a list of the towns you've explored, and pick a new direction each time.
