Powell's Book Swap

Split up in Powell's City of Books in Portland. Each pick the other a book under $10.

Grab a store map at the entrance, split up, and each pick a book for the other from a room you'd never usually wander into, under $10. Meet back up, swap books, and take a photo of each other's face at the big reveal. Then find a spot for coffee and read each other the first page.

About this place

Powell's started in 1971, and its City of Books fills an entire city block in the Pearl District, with more than 68,000 square feet of new, used and rare books in nine color-coded rooms and over 3,500 sections. It calls itself the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world.

Look for the Pillar of Books by the entrance facing the Pearl District, a stone stack of eight great books carved with the words "Buy the book, read the book, enjoy the book, sell the book."
